Juice Plus+ is made by juicing 15 different fruits and vegetables and the sugar and water are removed through a drying process that leaves you with the phytonutrients from the fruits and vegetables. These nutrients are packed in a capsule to ensure no damage is done to the nutrients. This is what makes up the Juice Plus+ nutrition in the JP+ supplement. Other Juice Plus+ supplements include the Juice Plus+ Berry blend which is also known as the Vineyard blend. These come in capsule form and are also made the same way as the Juice Plus+ Capsule that have the fruit and vegetables. By the way, the fruits and vegetables are kept separate from each other as several studies show that digestion is improved with each when they are taken separately. There is also the Juice Plus+ Complete which is a protein powder meal-replacement shake that is great for weight management. We use the JP+ Complete almost everyday because it is nutritious, healthy, and quick and easy to make. All of the Juice Plus+ products are beneficial to your health. So we recommend you take the Juice Plus+ Capsules, Juice Plus+ Vineyard Blend, and use the Juice Plus+ Complete shakes in your daily diet for optimal health.

Why Juice Plus...
Each morning I use the Juice Plus+® Complete and make a smoothie
with two bananas, skim milk, and crushed ice. Every day I take my Fruit and
Veggie Juice Plus+® Capsules and Vineyard Blend. I haven't felt this
good about a supplement or about my conviction about its benefits.
Do I believe in this product? Yes! Here’s why. In December 2003, I started to notice that my health wasn't as good as it used to be - somewhat of a downward spiral over the past few years. I thought it was due to playing hockey once a week and working out everyday and the punishment I was putting on my back. But at the time I really began to think that my energy level had deteriorated beyond anything I was ever used to - and certainly I had never been used to that for more than a day. It had now seemed like everyday went a little slower. Well, after a few tests showed that my cholesterol was high and my triglycerides were high, I looked at my diet and realized I wasnt't getting enough fruits and vegetables and fiber, and I was eating too much "non-food" items like potato chips and baked goods. Not that much, mind you, but enough that it made a difference especially considering the lack of fruits and vegetables. (Before and after pics HERE). I changed my diet, added more Oatmeal, and it really helped - all my levels were back to normal. A few months later I found Juice Plus+® (I should say it found me!) and I added that to my diet. After one month I began to notice the changes - and I had been taking all kinds of Vitamins and Minerals and other supplements in handfuls everyday! I stopped with all the other supplements and since then have only taken Juice Plus+® and can tell you I haven't felt this good since I was 25 years old. Everyone is looking for the fountain of youth, and I can tell you there isn't one - but there is a formula for one! It's fruits, vegetables, fiber, plenty of water, exercise, and Juice Plus+®. What did I discover when considering Juice Plus? During my quests for what constitutes good health I devoured books and articles about supplements and discovered that one of the secrets of good health is to eat a lot of fruits and vegetables that contain disease fighting chemicals called phytonutrients. The same phytonutrients that help keep the plants healthy help keep our bodies healthy. Even thousands of years ago Hippocrates said, “let food be thy medicine.” As I studied the parade of supplements out there I’ve concluded that whatever supplement I take must have good science and make good sense. That’s how I came across Juice Plus+®. It had good science behind it and made good sense. A whole food based supplement! Whole foods, a bunch of the healthiest fruits and vegetables, juiced and dried at low temperatures, removing the water, sugar, salt and bulk. These nutritious juice powders are then put into capsules, chewables and gummies! Intrigued by this concept of packaged phytos I realize my life depended upon eating the right foods and taking the right supplements. So, I did my life saving detective work. While visiting the company where Juice Plus+® is made I saw first hand the care and quality that went into this product. In examining their independent research I discovered that they had measured the blood levels and found that disease-fighting “phytos” go way up after taking Juice Plus+®. This was a vital discovery since it’s not what’s on the package label that’s important, it’s how much gets into the body. Finally I grilled the company executives. They were honorable people. The combination of good science, good sense and a reputable company convinced me that this would be my supplement of choice. Since taking Juice Plus+® daily and following an overall healthy eating and exercise program I have not even had so much as a cold, even though my wonderful little patients share their germs with me everyday. The parents of children who are sick a lot often thank me: “Since my children have been taking Juice Plus+® they haven’t been sick as often.” Juice Plus+® is now the only whole food supplement I take. I’m pleased to recommend the joy of taking Juice Plus+®. to everyone who takes their health seriously. To order Juice Plus+® capsules or any other Juice Plus+® product, CLICK HERE Do your children get sick all the time? Do you frequently feel tired and run-down? Is there a strong family history of cancer or heart disease in your family? Is it nearly impossible to get your children to eat fruits and vegetables? Are you lacking the recommended 7 servings of raw fruits and vegetables each day? If the answer to any of these is yes, then Juice Plus is extremely important for you and your family. For many years the National Institute of Health, the American Cancer Society, the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Pediatrics and every other national health association has emphasized the importance of eating five servings of raw fruits and vegetables every day. The health benefits of this are numerous, including: Protection against cancer Stronger immune system Prevention of chronic illness Protection against heart disease Slows down the effects of aging These benefits are not only due to vitamins and minerals, but also from the active enzymes, antioxidants, phytonutrients and fiber contained within the raw fruits and vegetables. There are many more potential benefits of these nutrients such as improved intellectual function, better eyesight and increased energy level. In short, our bodies simply function more efficiently. One very important factor about fruits and vegetables that is often neglected by Americans is that they need to be eaten raw. Heat destroys the enzymes, fiber, and other active nutrients present in raw foods. In order to receive all the benefits of fruits and vegetables we need to eat them fresh and uncooked. How many of us actually eat five servings of raw fruits and vegetables every day? Most Americans may eat an orange with breakfast and maybe an apple with lunch. We are pretty good at making sure we finish our one or two cooked vegetables at dinnertime. However, virtually all of us fall far short of the quantity of raw fruits and vegetables required to protect us from cancer, chronic disease, infection, high cholesterol and heart disease. Very few of us are receiving the nutrition required to help our bodies run smoothly and efficiently and to maximize our potential for a healthy life. It is difficult to get adults to consume their share of fruits and vegetables, but trying to coax children, from toddlerhood through the teenage years, to eat enough of them is near impossible. Many parents worry about their two-year-old who barely seems to eat anything at all or the busy teenager on-the-go who doesn't sit down to eat. The active nutrients in fruits and vegetables can maximize the physical and intellectual development of our children as they grow through the school-age years. What is Juice Plus? Juice Plus is more than extra vitamins and minerals. It is actually a whole food supplement. The fruit capsules are made from apples, oranges, pineapples, cranberries, peaches, cherries, papayas, dates and prunes. The vegetable capsules are made from carrots, barley, parsley, beets, kale, broccoli, cabbage, oats, spinach, tomatoes. How is Juice Plus made? The fresh fruits and vegetables are juiced, then dehydrated to a powder form. It's carefully tested to ensure no pesticides or other contaminants are present in the product. It is never exposed to high temperatures that would destroy the nutritional value of the fruits and vegetables. Most of the vitamins, minerals, active plant enzymes, phytonutrients, antioxidants, and fiber are preserved in the final capsules. When re-hydrated with water, the nutrients are absorbed into our bodies as if we had eaten the fruits and vegetables whole. Is Juice Plus as good as eating fruits and vegetables? There's no complete substitute for eating the real thing. But how many people actually eat such a wide variety of raw fruits, vegetables and grains every single day? Juice Plus is a convenient way to ensure you and your family get all the benefits over time from adding more nutrition from fresh fruits and vegetables to your diet. These benefits include prevention of cancer and chronic illness, stronger immune system to protect against disease, slower aging, healthier heart and lower cholesterol. But my child already takes vitamins. Why does she need Juice Plus? Juice Plus is not a vitamin supplement. It is considered a whole food, containing virtually all the substance from the fruits and vegetables. Manufactured vitamins are "dead" vitamins. They are not in their natural form, and are therefore not very well absorbed into your child's system. The vitamins and nutrients in Juice Plus are virtually all absorbed. Is there any scientific proof that Juice Plus really works? Recent medical research has yielded some very interesting results regarding Juice Plus. In one study, 15 adults consumed regular doses of Juice Plus for 28 days. Blood levels of antioxidants (substances that protect against cancer and heart disease) increased dramatically: beta-carotene 500%; alpha-carotene 120%; lutein/zeaxanthin/ tocopherol 50%; lycopene 2000%. Lipid peroxide (an indicator of poor metabolism) decreased four-fold. Another study, in which 46 adults consumed regular doses of Juice Plus for 80 days, not only yielded similar increases in antioxidant levels but also demonstrated enhanced functioning of parts of the immune system that help protect against multiple cancers and infectious diseases. This study also showed a three-fold decrease in the level of cellular DNA damage, which correlates with a decrease in the effects of aging and risk of cancer and chronic illness. This all may sound complicated, but the simple truth is that Juice Plus+® is the best way to get your entire family to reap all the benefits of a diet rich in raw fruits and vegetables. Juice Plus+® comes in three forms: capsules for adults chewable tablets for older children great tasting gummy bears for toddlers and younger children Eat the fruit capsules at breakfast and the vegetable capsules at dinner with a glass of water to rehydrate them. I am very excited about Juice Plus and have seen the benefits in myself and my children. Start your family on Juice Plus today and see the benefits over a lifetime! |

| HOW JUICE PLUS+® IS MADE All fruits and vegetables used in Juice Plus+®
are grown under the strictest U.S.D.A. guidelines. To ensure highest quality,
well-matured fruits and vegetables are always selected for Juice Plus+®.
Most come from the states of Washington, Oregon, California, Arizona, Hawaii,
Florida, and Massachusetts. Any produce not grown in these areas from our
list of well established growers is tested extensively to insure compliance
with our requirements.
All fruits and vegetables are chilled, hand sorted, and carefully washed with an oxidizing solution to kill yeast, mold and bacteria that are always present on fruits and vegetables prior to processing in our “one of a kind” refrigerated juicing machine. This step is also important because any pesticide or herbicide residues, should they be present, will be removed by the oxidizing solution. The oxidizing solution is rinsed off prior to juicing. All Juice Plus+® products are free of pesticides and herbicides. During the proprietary water removal process, low temperatures and an oxygen-free atmosphere are maintained during the entire process to protect the most delicate enzymes in the juices. The finished powder is tested for moisture content, bacteria, yeast, and mold. Any batch not meeting specific safety criteria is rejected. The final stage involves blending and encapsulation. Before this point, the product must meet our stringent requirements for vitamins, minerals and enzymes. Before final release, the data on each batch which includes all manufacturing records, raw material certificates of analysis, origination documents and laboratory analysis are carefully reviewed to insure a product that is safe, efficacious and meets all Quality Assurance standards. These comprehensive records are audited both electronically and manually. Juice Plus+® Capsules, Chewables, Thins, Complete and JP+ Gummies are gluten-free and dairy-free. The capsules are sugar-free. The Chewables, Thins and Complete contain a small quantity of fructose (fruit sugar) for texture and flavor enhancement. Six Gummies contain 5 grams of mixed sugars to enhance taste and stability. We do not list the individual vitamins and minerals because Juice Plus+® is a balanced food concentrate containing the vitamins, minerals, and phytochemicals found in fresh ripe fruits and vegetables. Because Juice Plus+® is a totally natural and balanced product, it cannot be compared to vitamin pills that are always fragmented and contain a very limited number of vitamins in totally artificial ratios (i.e. fragmented). The bio-availability of Juice Plus+® is clearly demonstrated in the study published in Current Therapeutic Research; the decrease in DNA damage in The Juice Plus+ DNA Study: and improvement in immune function in The Juice Plus+ Immune Studies. Copies of all three peer-reviewed articles are available upon request or you may find them on our website: www.juiceplus.com. Juice Plus+® nutritional products do not contain anything herbal, synthetic or controversial. Any individual that can eat fresh fruits and vegetables can take Juice Plus+® and realize the benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables. John L. Mory Technical Services NSA |

| Reduce Your Risk of Vision Loss From Macular Degeneration Find Out Which Foods and Supplements Will Help (source) Chris A. Knobbe, M.D. Assistant Clinical Professor University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center - Dallas
Age related macular degeneration (AMD) is associated with a slowly progressive
deterioration of central vision for which there is no cure. It is the leading
cause of irreversible vision loss among the elderly. The condition may lead
to severe loss of central acuity, such that the affected may lose ability
read, drive a vehicle, or recognize familiar faces. However, as in many disease
states, prevention may be possible and every person with AMD or at risk for
AMD should understand the basic principles.
There are a number of risk factors for AMD, including genetic inheritance, advancing age, smoking, and high blood pressure. Unfortunately, many people that get AMD or are at risk for the disease don’t have any risk factors that are under their control, except possibly one: nutrition. In this article, we’ll review two landmark studies linking nutrition to AMD and we’ll provide specific nutritional advice to those with AMD as well as those at risk for the disease. Ophthalmologists and vision scientists at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary published the results of a study investigating the relationship between dietary factors and AMD in the Journal of the American Medical Association in November, 1994. This study found that individuals who had the highest consumption of vegetables rich in carotenoids (lutein and zeaxanthin) had a 43% lower risk of developing AMD than those who ate these foods the least. Vegetables rich in carotenoids include dark, leafy green vegetables, especially raw spinach, kale, and collard greens. As stated by the investigators in this study, “in particular, a higher frequency of intake of spinach or collard greens was associated with a substantially lower risk for AMD”. The authors stated, at the conclusion of the study, that “consumption of foods rich in certain carotenoids, in particular dark green, leafy vegetables, may decrease the risk of developing advanced or exudative (“wet”) AMD, the most visually disabling form of macular degeneration among older people”. A second study investigating nutritional factors and AMD, supported by the National Institutes of Health/National Eye Institute, showed that high levels of antioxidant vitamins and zinc significantly reduced the risk of advanced age-related macular degeneration and its associated vision loss. This study, known as the Age Related Eye Disease Study (AREDS), was truly another landmark study for patients with AMD. The investigators state, “people at high risk of developing advanced stages of AMD, a leading cause of vision loss, lowered their risk by about 25 percent when treated with a high-dose combination of vitamin C, vitamin E, beta-carotene, and zinc”. Interestingly, the participants in the study who had either early AMD or no AMD did not appear to benefit from this antioxidant and zinc regimen. “This is an exciting discovery because, for people at high risk for developing advanced AMD, these nutrients are the first effective treatment to slow the progression of the disease,” said Paul A. Sieving, M.D., Ph.D., director of the National Eye Institute. “AMD is a leading cause of visual impairment and blindness in American 65 years of age and older. Currently, treatment for advanced AMD is quite limited. These nutrients will delay the progression to advanced AMD in people who are at high risk – those with intermediate AMD in one or both eyes, or those with advanced AMD in one eye already”. Dr. Sieving further states that patients with AMD should understand that there isn’t a cure for AMD and that proper nutrition will not restore vision that is already lost. However, the study results also clearly demonstrate that nutrients play a key role in helping to maintain vision in people at high risk for developing advanced AMD. The nutrients evaluated in the AREDS study contained 500 milligrams of vitamin C, 400 international units of vitamin E, 15 milligrams of beta-carotene, 80 milligrams of zinc as zinc oxide, and two milligrams of copper as cupric oxide. In this study, the NEI was supported by and collaborated with Bausch and Lomb, an ophthalmic products and pharmaceuticals company that provided the nutritional supplements, financial support for laboratory testing, and distribution of the supplements themselves. Today, these supplements can be found in a formulation called Ocuvite® Preservision™. What Supplements Should One Take to Prevent AMD Progression? Given the findings of these studies, most ophthalmologists have begun to recommend that patients with AMD include an abundance of leafy green vegetables in their diet. However, many people are unable to include the dark, leafy green vegetables in their diet on a daily or regular basis. In this case, could a whole-food based supplement help? The answer is likely, “yes”. One supplement that appears particularly well suited for the AMD patient is Juice Plus+®. This whole-food based supplement combines the nutritional essence of seventeen different fruits, vegetables, and grains and provides the supplement in easy to take capsules or gummies. Juice Plus+® not only contains concentrated extracts from spinach and kale, but also includes key nutritional ingredients from carrots, parsley, beets, broccoli, cabbage, tomato, barley, and oats (in the Garden Blend), as well as apples, oranges, pineapple, cranberries, peaches, acerola cherries, and papaya (in the Orchard Blend). It is backed by an abundance of independent and ongoing clinical and scientific research. Juice Plus+® raises the levels of lutein and zeaxanthin significantly in the blood and, interestingly, may do this better than whole foods themselves! Furthermore, Juice Plus+® raises the levels of multiple antioxidants in the blood, demonstrates reduced levels of lipid peroxides (a measure of oxidative stress) and homocysteine (an indicator of heart disease risk) in the blood, reliably enhances immune function, and reduces DNA (our unique genetic code) damage. Bausch and Lomb, the maker of Ocuvite®, produces other supplements specific for patients with macular degeneration, including Ocuvite Extra®, and Ocuvite® Lutein. These products are found in retail stores and pharmacies everywhere. Macular Protect Complete® from Science Based Health, Alcon laboratories ICaps™, and other supplements also contain antioxidant vitamins and zinc in dosages supported by the AREDS study group, along with various doses of other vitamins and minerals, which are beyond the scope of this article. It should be pointed out that supplementation with beta-carotene, a vitamin A precursor, has been shown to increase the risk of lung cancer among smokers. However, whole food based supplementation has not been shown to increase the risk of lung cancer among smokers and, in fact, there is some evidence that whole food based nutrition may decrease the risk of lung cancer in smokers. One study showed that a higher intake of green and yellow vegetables or other food sources of beta-carotene decreased the risk of lung cancer. As such, smokers should exercise caution in consuming any non whole-food based supplement that contains beta-carotene or Vitamin A. Conclusions It is clear from the studies to date that a diet rich in dark, leafy green vegetables will help to decrease an individual’s risk of developing age-related macular degeneration (AMD). It would be wise to include a serving or two of raw spinach, kale, or collard greens in your diet every day to help prevent macular degeneration and/or to help delay progression of the disease once it has begun. But how many people will be able to follow these dietary recommendations? As such, it appears wise to supplement the diet with a whole-food based product such as Juice Plus+®. This product may not only decrease an individual’s risk of developing AMD, but it may also delay its progression once it has begun. Juice Plus+® may also decrease risk of cardiovascular disease and cancer as well as enhance immune function. If an intermediate degree of AMD has already developed, or an advanced degree of AMD has developed in one eye, studies clearly indicate that dietary supplementation with vitamins E and C, beta-carotene, zinc and copper, in the doses previously mentioned, will help to delay progression of the disease. These antioxidant vitamins are readily available in a number of over-the-counter products including Ocuvite®, ICaps™, and many others. AMD may not be an entirely preventable disease, however, it is certainly prudent for all of us to minimize our risk. How do we do this? Don’t smoke. Be sure your blood pressure is controlled. Consume plenty of dark, leafy green vegetables and/or consider the whole-food based supplement Juice Plus+® along with antioxidant vitamins and zinc. References

An extract made of dried fruit and vegetable powders. Juice Plus+® was
created by a naturopath, Dr. Humbart "Smokey" Santillo. Based on the creator's
notion that the nutritional benefits of fresh fruits and vegetables can be
obtained by in a capsule of dried extracts, the supplement is touted as an
easy way to help you “feel better”, “look better”, “sleep better”, “get tired
less easily”, and “shed a few pounds”. A few small-scale studies have shown
that supplementation with Juice Plus+® may increase serum antioxidants
(2) (5) as well as protect lymphocytes in the elderly (4). While it is true
that nutritional supplementation is important in maintaining health in many
segments of the population, particularly the elderly, none of the scientific
studies undertaken have sought to prove that Juice Plus+® is more effective
or more bioavailable than other supplements. In addition, no studies exist
to compare the physiologic effects of supplementation with Juice Plus+®
and eating whole fresh fruits and vegetables. Juice Plus+® is distributed
through a multi-tiered marketing scheme with exaggerated value and cost.
ALSO KNOWN AS JuicePlus, Juice Plus BRAND NAME Juice Plus+® FOOD SOURCES Fruits and vegetables. PURPORTED USES Cancer prevention Cardiovascular disease Weight loss CONSTITUENTS Dried fruit and vegetable powders (2) (3) (4) MECHANISM OF ACTION Consumption of dietary fruits and vegetables has been shown to reduce the risk of certain forms of cancer and cardiovascular disease. This benefit has been attributed to the increased intake of antioxidants such as beta-carotene and vitamin E. This preventative benefit does not appear to occur with beta-carotene supplementation alone, leading researchers to believe that other protective factors are present in fruits and vegetables that work alone or in combination with antioxidants. (2) WARNINGS High doses of antioxidants are not recommended during chemotherapy and radiation therapy. Theoretically, antioxidants can decrease the efficacy of radiation therapy and certain chemotherapy drugs that rely on the generation of free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) as mediators of cytotoxicity. ADVERSE REACTIONS Some test subjects developed a hive-like rash during treatment. (2) DRUG INTERACTIONS Theoretically, antioxidants can decrease the efficacy of radiation therapy and certain chemotherapy drugs that rely on the generation of free radicals and reactive oxygen species (ROS) as mediators of cytotoxicity. LITERATURE SUMMARY AND CRITIQUE Inserra PF, et al. Immune function in elderly smokers and nonsmokers improves during supplementation with fruit and vegetable extracts. Integr Med 1999;2:3-10. 53 elderly subjects took two Juice Plus+® capsules in the morning and two in the evening for eighty days. Serum antioxidant levels were measured at baseline, day 40 and completion. Statistically significant increases were reported in lutein/zeaxanthin, alpha and beta carotene, lycopene, alpha-tocopherol, natural killer cell cytotoxicity and interleukin-2. Despite the apparent benefit claimed by the study, the design of this study is inadequate due to the fact that it was not randomized, blinded or placebo controlled. Kaats GR, et al. Positive effects of nutritional supplements on body composition biomarkers of aging during a weight loss program. JANA. This study published in a non-Medline reviewed journal studied 96 healthy, elderly subjects for sixty days. Subjects were divided into an experimental group which consumed a variety of Juice Plus+® products and a control group which consumed a placebo. Subjects in both groups were provided with a behavior modification plan including instructions for living at their specific goal weight, and tools to calculate daily caloric and fat intake. At the end of the trial, the difference in scale weight loss was insignificant; however the experimental group had a statistically significant improvement in overall body composition. While Juice Plus+® may be useful in maintaining healthy body composition during weight loss; these particular results are not compelling since no details of randomization or blinding are given. Further study is necessary. REFERENCES (1) NSA International, Inc. http://www.juiceplus.com/ [Accessed March, 2003] (2) Inserra PF, et al. | Juice Plus+® doesn't live up to claims It is well established that people who eat lots of whole-grain cereals, fruits, and vegetables have a lower incidence of certain cancers. Research has also shown that emphasizing these foods can also help prevent heart attacks and strokes. National Safety Associates (NSA) of Memphis, Tennessee, would like you to believe that its Juice Plus+®(R) capsules provide "a convenient and inexpensive way to add more nutrition from fresh, raw fruits and vegetables to your diet." The company sells through a network of independent distributors who are encouraged to use them and to tell others how they have benefited. Although NSA makes no "official" health claims, its distributors make lots of them. NSA's "Guide for New Distributors," a 94-page loose-leaf manual dated October 1997, states that the products are made by juicing 17 foods and converting the juice to a powder. During the process, sugar, salt, and most of the calories and fibre are removed. Then enzymes and some fibre are added and the powder is put into capsules. The manual suggests that each food source provides a special health benefit. Apples, for example, are said to "contain boron, a trace mineral that affects the electrical activity of the brain, increasing mental alertness." Oranges are said to "contain every class of cancer inhibitor known." Acerola cherries are "a source of vitamin C, known to relieve symptoms of osteoarthritis." Carrots are said to lower cholesterol, parsley to be "good for the heart and immune system," kale to be a "powerful cancer fighter," and cabbage is "thought to block breast cancer." These claims are misleading, but even if they were true, there is no reason to conclude that taking Juice Plus+® capsules would provide the same benefit. The manual also claims: "The food enzymes in Juice Plus+® will facilitate digestion of your food, making it more usable to your body. This also conserves the body's own enzyme supply to do other important things like fighting off disease." This statement is false because (a) most people have enough enzymes in their intestinal tract to digest their food; (b) most of the enzymes in food are destroyed during digestion; and (c) the body's production of metabolic enzymes does not depend upon the amounts of enzymes in the digestive tract. Juice Plus+® promoters also misrepresent scientific studies sponsored by the company. The main one involved 15 people who took Juice Plus+® capsules for 28 days and raised their blood levels of beta-carotene, alpha carotene, lutein/zeaxanthin, lycopene, and vitamin E. The study found, for example, that beta-carotene levels were five times as high and lycopene levels were 20 times as high. Although many Juice Plus+® distributors regard this study as earth-shaking, it does not prove that taking Juice Plus+® is helpful -- or even safe. Only clinical trials can test that. In fact, there is some evidence that beta-carotene supplementation increases the risk of cancer. But that's not all. Much of the protective effect of fruits and vegetables is due to their fibre content. Juice Plus+® pills have nearly all the fibre removed. Moreover, eating lots of grains, fruits, and vegetables does not merely provide high levels of phytochemicals. It usually means that the overall diet is low or moderate in fat. Nobody knows whether adding a product like Juice Plus+® to a high-fat or low-fiber diet would provide much benefit. The bottom line is that if someone's diet is low in fruits, vegetables, or grains, the most prudent action is fix the diet. NSA sales aids acknowledge that taking Juice Plus+® is not as good as eating the recommended amounts of grains, fruits, and vegetables. But they recommend taking Juice Plus+® anyway. NSA's "Preferred Customers" who buy a four-month supply of Juice Plus+® capsules at a time, pay about $500 per year. If every North American did this, the total annual cost would exceed $100 billion. Do you think this would be a wise allocation of resources? I do not. ------------------ Stephen Barrett, M.D. Board Chairman, Quackwatch, Inc. | Juice Plus+ enzyme gummies Juice Plus+ had a booth at the DAN conference
and were giving out samples of the gummies for kids. They really tasted good.
I was looking in just a good tasting gummy without artificials for my kids.
Later I found out these are supposed to have fruit/vegetable nutrition as
well as plant-based enzymes and other things. The web-site is http://www.juiceplus.com.
It has a slick interface with animations which makes it kind of slow to load
and the information is not very technical. Here is the information from a
flyer with more info than in on the web site.
NOTE: this is an MLM company, eating real fruits and vegetables is probably much better than relying on these products, these products probably are not as dramatically helpful as the marketing claims, nor are they probably a total wash. The gummies sure tasted good, have no artificial stuff, and are probably much healthier than regular candy. So take it for what it is worth. ------------------------------------------------------- Description from a handout on Juice Plus "Let Food be Your Medicine and Medicine Be Your Food" – Hippocrates RARE if not UNHEARD of for a 100% whole food supplement…Studies published in several prestigious medical journals: 1. Integrative Medicine, Andrew Weil, MD, Volume 2, Issue 1, 1999 The following is a part of the abstract featured in Current Therapeutic Research: …subjects consumed supplements of this concentrated fruit and vegetable powder in capsule form taken twice daily with meals for 28 days, with plasma samples taken at baseline and 7, 14, 21, and 28 days, after only 28 days, plasma antioxidant levels increased significantly (at least quadrupled): beta-carotene, lycopene, 2,046%; alpha-carotene, 119%; and alpha-tocopherol, 58%…" This product is NOT juice and is NOT a "magic bullet." It is however, just pure nutrition in the form of 4 gelatin capsules a day. Vitamins are fragmented substances, of which the body only assimilates 3% to 18% (because the body doesn't recognize them as food). The exact amounts to be taken and the effectiveness, if any at all, are unknown. The fruit and vegetable capsules, on the other hand, are a 100% bio-available (easily absorbed) whole food. They contain 17 of the most nutritionally dense fruits, vegetables and grains. The capsules contain antioxidants, enzymes, phytochemicals, plant vitamins, minerals, soluble and insoluble fiber and more. "NATURE IN A CAPSULE" Technology didn't alter the life-enhancing properties in these fruits and vegetables…it only removed the water. With the water came almost all of the sugar, salt and the calories. This makes it an ideal supplement, even for diabetics who need this nutrition, but cannot tolerate the sugar. Juice Plus+ capsules contain only 4 calories per capsule. A daily dose is 2 fruit capsules in the morning and 2 vegetable capsules in the afternoon or evening, with at least an 8 oz. Glass of water (preferably filtered water). Juice Plus+ gives the body over 10,000+ nutrient (at least 5-9 servings of organically grown, vine or tree ripened, enzyme active fruits and vegetables a day); working together synergistically to give the body the fuel it needs to heal itself from within and to run at optimum efficiency. Why was this product reviewed in three prestigious medical journal? The main reason was the test results. With Preventive Healthcare being a growing concern, more and more health-oriented products are filling the shelves of health food stores everyday touting this or touting that. We are a world inundated with information ye starved for knowledge. So, what's a person to believe? In the almost 6 years that Juice Plus+ has been on the market, countless thousands of people have reported countless thousands of health testimonials to this life0enhancing product. Why? When you see the independent clinical reports and the third party documentation from around the globe, you'll understand too. What's in this product? Concentrates of apples, oranges, pineapples, cranberries, peaches, dates, pruned, papaya, cherries, carrots, (gluten free) barley and oats, parsley, beets, kale, broccoli, cabbage, spinach, tomatoes: and plant enzymes, (bromelain, papain, lipase, amylase, protease, cellulase) fibers (glucomannan, pectins, cellulose) acidophilus and allicin a from garlic. Juice Plus+ has been tested for the presence of every bioactive phytonutrient found in plants and more importantly, it has been tested for bioavailability: do the nutrients actually get absorbed? The answer from three clinical studies, by three independent groups in three countries is YES! The anti-oxidants are absorbed and they act in your body to reduce by 4-fold the production of rancid fat molecules, the free-radicals known as lipid peroxides! You don't have to have health challenges to get the benefits from this whole food product. Thousands of athletes the world over and countless others from every walk of life are using juice Plus+ to maintain their health in spite of the scarcity or organically grown, pesticide free, enzyme active, vine ripened fruits and vegetables, (not to mention the bombardment of free-radicals we inhale with every breath we take). It is convenient, inexpensive and life enhancing –and best of all – a fraction of the cost or buying fresh, raw fruits and vegetables year round – if you could find them all ($1.32 per day for Juice Plus+ capsules or 73 cents per day for Juice Plus Chewables or Gummies…delivered to your door). Need More Credibility? Effective October 1997, it was granted a US Patent! On April 18,1998, Juice Plus+ was presented at the 1998 annual conference for the Federation of the American Society of Experimental Biologists (FASEB), due to it's significant positive effect on anti-aging and the immune system. This conference was attended by over 20,000 doctors, professors and scientists from all over the world. In December 1998, new research was presented at the annul meeting of the American Society of Cell Biology on the positive effect of Juice Plus+ on the immune system and DNA repair. Gluten– All Juice Plus products are certified to be FREE of gluten by our manufacturer. While oats and barley are present in Juice Plus…only the outer shells of the grains are used and…NOT the inner core where glutens reside. 2. Casein – Since Juice Plus is a plant based product, it is free of casein. 3. Yeast, Mold, Herbicides and pesticides – The fruits and vegetables used in Juice Plus undergo an oxidizing wash which removes yeast, mold, herbicides and pesticides. The finished fruit and vegetable powders are once again tested for the absence of all known herbicides and pesticides. Systemic herbicides and pesticides are NOT used on any fruits and vegetables used in Juice Plus. Active Plant Enzymes – The water removal process of the fruit and vegetable juices done at a temperature that removes the water but does not destroy the most delicate enzymes present in the fruits and vegetables. Ice plus is an enzyme rich product. Bioavailability – The proprietary process used with Juice Plus results in very fine fruit and vegetable powders which aid in the absorption of nutrients into the blood stream. The published bioavailability study of Juice Plus supports the idea that Juice Plus is readily absorbed into the blood stream. Food Allergies – Because of the process used to remove the water from the fruits and vegetables in Juice Plus, the sugar and sodium is also removed. Plant lectins, which can cause food allergies, attach themselves to the sugar molecule and …since the sugar is removed… the lectins are also removed. Most people with food allergies DO NOT negatively respond to the Juice Plus products. Gelatin – (6) daily Juice Plus Gummies contain about 4 to 5 grams of prime quality beef gelatin. The Juice Plus Chewables have NO gelatin. If you use the Juice Plus Capsules and open the capsules and just sprinkle the powders into fruit or vegetable juice or…over cool food…there also will be NO gelatin. The gelatin used for the Juice Plus Capsules is Kosher certified. Leaky Gut Syndrome – Leaky Gut can be the results of prolonged periods of poor nutrition. Juice Plus users with leaky gut, in combination with plenty of filtered water, frequently overcome the challenge within a year. Sorbitol – sorbitol is used in Juice plus Chewables and is necessary to keep the chewable from becoming too hard to chew. Stomach cramping and mild diarrhea in children resulting from sorbitol is usually experienced when eating 12 grams or more in one meal. Juice Plus Chewables contain about 2 grams of sorbitol in (4) daily chewables. There have been NO reports of these side affects when using Juice Plus Chewables. Corn Syrup – Corn syrup is used in the Juice Plus Gummies. It is necessary to maintain the gummie texture. There is about 5 grams of corn syrup in (6) gummies (a Pepsi or Coke contains about 40 grams of corn syrup). Without it…the gummies would either be to difficult to chew or ….after a few days…tooo runny to keep in gummie form.
